J.R. Shuman is an actor and educator. He received a Master of Arts in Theatre Education from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts in 2018. Completion of this degree, to him, has been part of a continuing lifelong journey of teaching and educating others.
J.R. began acting in elementary school, had the lead role in his local high school spring production while he was still in middle school, and received a number of theatre awards in high school. J.R. received his BFA in Theatre Arts - Performance Emphasis, at Valdosta State University where he was voted Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2009. Since graduating from VSU, J.R. has written and directed a musical and taught theatre to students ranging from early elementary to high school in the Midwest and Massachusetts. He returned to graduate school in Boston to obtain his MFA so that he could teach theatre in all grade levels, including college.
J.R. Shuman has a passion for learning and fostering education, both for himself and for anyone else willing to listen! He is a consummate professional but is also personable to everyone he meets. As his father used to say, "I've never met a stranger."
